Michael Jackson was buried on Tuesday in Los Angeles without his brain, or at least part of it. Coroners had decided to keep part of the singer’s brain in order to run further tests to determine the cause of death, which has yet to be established.

Jackson died from an apparent coronary on June 25, and while his body was released to the family the following day his brain was not. And the organ may not be returned for several weeks as examiners wait for it to “harden” before they can conduct tests.

Jackson died at UCLA Medical Center after being stricken at his rented home in Holmby Hills. Paramedics tried to resuscitate him at his home for nearly three-quarters of an hour, then rushed him to the hospital, where doctors continued to work on him.
